Manchester United legend and now Beskitas manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed a tactical blueprint to neutralise Victor Osimhen, stating that traditional marking will not be effective against the prolific striker.
Osimhen’s Galatasaray will face Istanbul rivals Beşiktaş on Sunday in a highly anticipated Süper Lig fixture, and Solskjaer believes the Super Eagles forward could pose a significant threat if not properly contained.
“It is almost impossible to stop this player with marking. He is effective in the penalty area. That is why we will not be marking the player. We will keep him in a double compression.
“The best way to neutralise him is to cut off all passing traffic. If we close the center and especially the wings well, the problem will be solved before it starts,” he said as reported by Fanatik.
Victor Osimhen’s impressive Süper Lig record
Victor Osimhen has been a dominant force in the Süper Lig this season, making him a key danger man ahead of Galatasaray’s showdown with Beşiktaş.
Since joining the Turkish giants on a season-long loan from Napoli in September, the prolific striker has netted 26 goals and provided five assists in 30 appearances across all competitions.
His league form has been particularly outstanding, with 20 goals and four assists in just 22 Süper Lig matches. The 26-year-old's latest display of brilliance came in Galatasaray’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Antalyaspor before the international break, where he delivered a stunning hat-trick.
Osimhen heads into Sunday’s derby in fine form, having scored all three of Nigeria’s goals in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, further reinforcing his reputation as a clinical finisher.
