English Championship club Watford has confirmed the departure of Super Eagles forward Samuel Kalu following the mutual termination of his contract.

Kalu joined Watford from French side Bordeaux in January 2022 but struggled to make an impact with the Hornets.

Forgettable experience at Watford for Samuel Kalu

A product of the renowned GBS Academy in Jos, Nigeria, Kalu has previously played for clubs like AS Trenčín and KAA Gent.

The Nigerian winger found playing time hard to come by during his stint at Vicarage Road, making only 13 appearances in all competitions, including four in the Premier League.

Unfortunately, Kalu was unable to register any goal contributions during his time with Watford, as injuries and a loss of form severely limited his opportunities on the pitch.

In search of more game time, Kalu was loaned out to Swiss Super League club Lausanne-Sport for the 2023-2024 season.

While in Switzerland, he showed glimpses of his talent, contributing to five goals across 21 appearances in all competitions, including three goals and two assists.

Super Eagles winger free to seek new opportunities

With his contract terminated on August 30, the 27-year-old winger is now free to join a new club despite the close of the transfer window as he seeks to resurrect his career.

Samuel Kalu, who was a member of Nigeria's squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, has played 16 times for the Super Eagles.

Since then, he has not been called up after making a brief appearance in a 2022 World Cup qualifying match against the Central African Republic in October 2021.
