Ndidi to abandon sinking Leicester ship with Champions League football on offer

Wilfred Ndidi is reportedly weighing up a summer move amid increasing speculation about his future.

With Leicester City’s relegation from the Premier League looming, the Super Eagles midfielder is exploring opportunities to continue playing at the highest level, with Champions League football a key factor in his decision.

Reports from Turkey indicate that Turkish giants Galatasaray, long-time admirers of the 28-year-old midfielder, have reignited their interest in securing his services.

The Istanbul-based club showed interest in Ndidi last summer but were unable to finalise a deal. However, with the Foxes facing the threat of another relegation, the Nigerian midfielder is now reportedly open to exploring alternative opportunities.

Wilfred Ndidi’s Leicester legacy: 8 years of consistency

Ndidi has been a staple in the Leicester side since joining from Genk way back in 2017.

Over the past eight years, the defensive midfielder has racked up 295 appearances, contributing 18 goals and 21 assists while cementing his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most reliable midfield anchors.

The Lagos-born midfielder has played a pivotal role in Leicester’s resurgence, including their historic FA Cup triumph in 2021 and their Championship promotion in 2023.

The Turkish champions are not the only club monitoring Ndidi, as AS Monaco showed interest in securing his services in January. Before extending his Leicester contract last summer, the Nigerian midfielder was linked with moves to Barcelona, Sevilla, Juventus, Trabzonspor, Everton, Lyon, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Olympique Marseille.

In the current campaign, Ndidi has featured in 21 matches for Leicester, starting each one. He has contributed one goal and four assists while maintaining an impressive average of 82 minutes per game.

Ndidi's contract with Leicester is set to run until June 30, 2027. Once valued at £50 million, the midfielder's market worth has since declined, with Transfermarkt currently estimating his value at around £15 million.
