Ndidi surpasses Super Eagles legend Jay-Jay Okocha in Leicester draw

Wilfred Ndidi recorded two assists in Leicester City's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Jean-Philippe Mateta's penalty in added time prevented Leicester City from securing their first Premier League win of the season, as Steve Cooper's side surrendered a two-goal lead.

Ndidi’s selection over a more traditional attacking midfielder had sparked some controversy, but the Nigeria midfielder delivered an outstanding performance in the first half.

He intercepted possession from Adam Wharton, played a precise pass into space for striker Jamie Vardy, who bypassed Dean Henderson to score.

Within 20 seconds of the second half, the Foxes found themselves two goals ahead. The Nigeria international once again displayed remarkable composure to tee up Mavididi for a volley after a cross was not cleared.

Wilfred Ndidi’s performance in numbers

Wilfred Ndidi delivered a noteworthy performance in Leicester's stalemate with the Eagles, playing 76 minutes before being substituted by Hamza Choudhury.

Beyond his two assists, Ndidi made significant contributions throughout the match. He registered 48 touches and executed four key passes, creating three major scoring opportunities, two of which resulted in goals.

Defensively, Ndidi was effective in winning seven out of 16 ground duels and one out of three aerial duels. He committed four fouls and was fouled twice, while also making one interception and three tackles. His passing accuracy stood at 72%, with 21 out of 29 passes completed successfully.

The 27-year-old also demonstrated his dribbling prowess with two successful attempts out of two.

Ndidi's two assists against Crystal Palace brought his Premier League total to 12, surpassing the ten assists accumulated by the legendary Nigerian playmaker Austin Jay-Jay Okocha throughout his career.

Before leaving England, Okocha scored 14 goals and recorded ten assists in 125 Premier League appearances for Bolton Wanderers.
