Genk Play-off hopes dashed by latest Yira Sor injury
The club had initially hoped to have the Nigerian forward back for the crucial play-off push, but the severity of his injury has dashed those hopes.
Sor, who was part of Nigeria’s team at the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup in Poland, has been a key figure for the ‘Smurfs this campaign, featuring in 20 Jupiler Pro League matches.
The pacy Nigerian has scored six goals and provided an assist so far this season. His goals this season came against Gent (2), KAS Eupen, KV Kortrijk, Saint Truiden, and Charleroi, with his assist coming against Antwerp.
The 23-year-old also showcased his talent on the European stage, making four appearances in the Europa Conference League.
He joined Genk from Slavia Prague last January for a reported €6.5 million, quickly establishing himself as a valuable asset for Genk.

His performances on the pitch justified the hefty transfer fee, and his absence will leave a significant void in the attacking department.
He missed the last three games for Genk before picking up a knock against Standard Liege.
Even though the club was hopeful he would recover from it for the playoffs, that isn’t the case now as he will miss the playoffs when Genk start against Union Saint Gilloise, who once had Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface on their books.
However, there's a silver lining for Genk fans – Yira Sor is contracted with the club until 2027.
While his absence for the rest of the season stings, supporters can look forward to seeing him back in action, fully fit and ready to contribute next season as he excites them will his goals and runs down the flanks.
Sor was one of the new players touted to be called up by Nigeria for the last international window, but it did not happen.
