A rematch? Kaizer Chiefs to play Sundowns again! Nabi confirms

For the past several days, the main discussion in South Africa has been about the Saturday Premier Soccer League game between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.

The two teams played at the FNB Stadium with Masandawana claiming a 2-1 win in a controversial way. Amakhosi fans claimed the officials were wrong to allow the visitors to score their second goal, alleging Lucas Ribeiro was offside in the buildup.

Inacio Miguel's late strike was also disallowed after the referee blew the whistle after a foul on Khuliso Mudau.

The Glamour Boys coach Nasreddine Nabi has now confirmed the Soweto giants will play the Premier Soccer League champions in a friendly fixture since the two teams are not involved in any competitive matches for the next three weeks.

“Definitely, we have scheduled some friendly games and amongst the teams that we are going to face, we do have Mamelodi Sundowns,” he said in a presser.

“But I don't understand why the league is stopping. We have just started on the 16th of September. We played only three games and now we stop, guys please.”

Sundowns ready for Amakhosi test?

Coach Manqoba Mngqithi says the PSL refused to schedule a match in the final week of the MTN8, but he will have to ensure players are engaged.

“We will try to have some friendly matches in between. It’s a bit unfortunate because we did think it would have helped us to play in the week of the MTN8 final so as to alleviate pressure on our side. But unfortunately, it did not happen,” he stated.

“We also use these FIFA breaks to give our players a little bit of a breather because we know the schedule ahead is going to be very tough. But we will have to play at least two friendlies.”

Masandawana have maximum points from the three PSL games they have played in the new campaign.
