After Tau snub, Nabi updates on Mayele’s potential move to Chiefs

The Democratic Republic of Congo striker has been linked to the Glamour Boys for the last couple of weeks.

Kaizer Chiefs have had a fairly good transfer window despite failure to land some primary targets to bolster their squad.

So far, they have signed Rwanda international goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari who has been regarded as Itumeleng Khune's replacement. Angola international Inacio Miguel has been brought from Petro Atletico to strengthen the defence. Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Gaston Sirino is another new boy in the Glamour Boys squad.

The trio join defenders Rushwin Dortley and Bongani Sam who joined from Cape Town Spurs and Orlando Pirates respectively.

Is Mayele next on the Chiefs list?

Amakhosi have tried in vain to sign new attackers; they had initially targeted Asanele Velabayi, Ashley Cupido, Khanyisa Mayo, and Clement Mzize, but failed to agree on some cases while some clubs, like Yanga SC, refused to sell.

Percy Tau is the most recent player who has seemingly refused to join the Soweto giants as revealed by the technical team.

It seems, Fiston Mayele will not be joining Chiefs after recent comments by coach Nasreddine Nabi, “Fiston Mayele is like family to me; we worked well together [at Young Africans],” the Tunisian told OnTime Sports.

“But he has a contract with Pyramids, and he’s not available. We respect that and have not engaged in any negotiations.”

From the look of things, Amakhosi are still in the market for a striker after Christian Saile and Ranga Chivaviro's struggles last season. There are a couple of weeks before the transfer market concludes which gives the team some time to find their man.

Chiefs start the Premier Soccer League season on Saturday, September 14 against Marumo Gallants.
