The Mozambique defender has added to the injury woes at Amakhosi
Kaizer Chiefs’ injury woes seem not to be stopping following the confirmation that defender Edmilson Dove has also suffered a setback.
Dove suffered an injury on Friday during Chiefs’ ongoing pre-season in Turkey and will now leave camp and head back to South Africa to begin his rehabilitation.
“The Mozambican international has been examined by the medical team in camp. He will leave Turkiye and head back to South Africa for a full assessment and medical attention,” Chiefs said through a statement.
Dove is the fifth Chiefs player to be sidelined by injury
“We wish him, and the rest of the injured fellows a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing them back on the training grounds and field of play soon.”
It is a significant blow to Chiefs who are already light in defence as Dove is capable of playing both in central defence and left-back.
The former Cape Town City man was beginning to get to grips with new coach Nasreddine Nabi’s tactics but will now join Mduduzi Mdantsane, Tebogo Potsane, Dillan Solomons and George Matlou in the treatment room.
Amakhosi will likely be in the market for more defenders
The extent of Dove’s injury is still not known but his absence leaves Chiefs with three defenders in camp, being Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Given Msimango and Zitha Kwinika following the release of Sifiso Hlanti and Njabulo Ngcobo last month.
Given Mdantsane and Solomons will be out for nearly three months, Dove’s injury will likely force Chiefs into the market for new defenders as they cannot afford to go into the new season with few options at the back.
