The MLS club has detailed what the midfielder’s return to Amakhosi entails
Kaizer Chiefs have a chance to re-sing midfielder Njabulo Blom permanently after he made a sensational return to the club on Tuesday from MLS side St Louis City FC.
Blom, a Chiefs academy graduate, was among two new players unveiled by the Glamour Boys, alongside defender Bradley Cross, to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season.
Chiefs initially announced that the midfielder has been signed on a one-year loan until 2025 but the MLS club has now confirmed that the deal also includes an option of signing the player permanently.
What does Blom’s deal to Kaizer Chiefs entail?
“St Louis CITY SC loaned midfielder Njabulo Blom to South African Premiership club Kaizer Chiefs FC through June 2025. Kaizer Chiefs have the option to purchase following the end of the loan,” said St Louis City.
“He [Blom] will have a great opportunity to get more minutes at a competitive level and help continue his professional growth. Kaizer Chiefs is one of the top clubs in Africa,” said St Louis Sporting Director Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel.
Blom joined the Missouri-based club in January 2023 and made 26 appearances, including 21 starts as the club, then under South African coach Brandley Carnell, secured promotion to the MLS.

The midfielder fell out of favour at St Louis
He has made 11 appearances in 2024 but things started going south when Carnell was sacked in July.
The player was handed a one-match suspension last month for breaching team rules and it was the last straw as coach John Hackworth banished him from the squad and with his future in America looking bleak, he decided to return home.
Blom is back to familiar surroundings having spent four years at Chiefs before leaving for the United States and his signing will lift the Amakhosi in central midfield, an area they struggled in since his departure.
