Aziz Ki sets record straight between Kaizer Chiefs & Mokwena’s Wydad AC

The Wananchi attacker says he might consider playing in North Africa after he is done with Wananchi.

Premier Soccer League heavyweights Mamelodi Sundowns and Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs have been linked with Young Africans SC attacker Stephane Aziz Ki.

The in-demand Burkina Faso international has reiterated his desire to stay with the Tanzanian champions and help them meet their targets. The 28-year-old has been with Wananchi since 2022 and was part of the squad that played in the 2022/23 Caf Confederation Cup final where Yanga narrowly lost against USM Alger.

In the 2023/24 Caf Champions League quarter-final loss against Mamelodi Sundowns, coach Rhulani Mokwena showed interest, and even after leaving for Wydad AC, the 37-year-old tried to contact the East Africans regarding the player.

Chiefs or Wydad AC? Ki makes his choice

Amakhosi tried to sign Ki in 2022, but they were turned down. The Glamour Boys coach Nasreddine Nabi worked with the attacker in Tanzania and the duo has a good relationship.

However, the Ivory Coast Burkinabe has shared his mind on where he would love to play in the future.

“Honestly, I would like to play for [Mokwena] because of the way his team plays. I watched a lot of his games at Sundowns; this coach’s philosophy is something else; it’s very nice,” Ki told iDiski Times.

“For sure when you are a player with quality, you want to play for a coach like that because you will learn so many things from him. I’m open to working with him in the future, but for now, it’s not a good moment because I’m with Yanga, and also we have a new team.

“But you’ll never know; maybe after this season, I can be with him, or when I finish the contract, I can be with him or another team.

“But in football, you’ll never know tomorrow, you can get an offer that will be more and maybe even join coach Rulani or any other team.”

What are Mokwena's targets?

After finishing outside the top six last season, Mokwena has been handed a three-year deal to help the team perform well not only in Morocco but in Africa at large.

The Moroccans will be among the four African teams – including Al Ahly, Esperance, and Mamelodi Sundowns, that will play in the 2025 expanded Fifa Club World Cup to be held in the United States.

Even if Mokwena will miss Ki, at least for now, he might get Percy Tau who has hinted he is leaving Al Ahly after falling out with coach Marcel Kohler.
