Bafana Bafana move up two spots in latest FIFA rankings

Published on by

Bafana Bafana have moved up two spots in the FIFA rankings that were published this past week. This follows the recent conclusion of UEFA Euro (won by Spain) and Copa America (won by Argentina).

Argentina have maintained their top spot, having made history again this year. In the past five years, they have only tasted defeats twice in 61 games, winning 45 matches, drawing two and securing four trophies – World Cup, two Copa’s America and a Finalissima.

Meanwhile, France remain second in spite of failing to reach the final of Euro having lost to Spain in the semi-final. Spain’s rise to third was one of the most notable changes after they became European champions.

South Africa are still in the top 60 countries in the world. They have climbed up two places from 59th position to 57th after accumulating four points from the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches in June.

They drew 1-1 with the Super Eagles of Nigeria before they defeated the Warriors of Zimbabwe 3-1 at home at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.

On the hand, SA remain in tenth place in the CAF rankings behind Mali who’re ninth. Morocco continue to stay on top in Africa.
