Bafana Bafana star advises PSL players to choose ‘special’ European country

Bafana Bafana defender Siyabonga Ngezana has called on South African players to consider signing for Romanian clubs.

Ngezana joined Romanian club FCSB last season and won the league title while he has been a key component of the team this term as they challenged on multiple fronts, including in the Europa League, where they reached the Round of 16.

The defender has seen enough in Romania to be convinced that it is a great place for other South African players looking to move to Europe and wants them to follow in his footsteps.

“I think playing in Romain taught me that we’re not here for ourselves, it’s about respecting the people who are going to come after me,” the former Kaizer Chiefs defender told FARPost.

Why does Ngezana want SA players in Romania?

“So, I hope I’m giving enough inspiration to players in the PSL to look for opportunities in Romania and other European countries. As I said, I hope being here in Romania inspires players in South Africa to come also.

“There is so much talent in South Africa, and I know the players can make a big impact in this league. So I hope other players will have the courage to come here and express their talent, which will open more doors for many other players to play in Europe.”

The Sebokeng-born centre-back has made 38 appearances in all competitions for FCSB this season, managing one goal, and he could win his second league title as his side lead the standings.

His great run in the team has also seen him nail down a place in the Bafana Bafana team as he is among the key men for coach Hugo Broos.
