Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker has lauded the impact of his left-back Fawaaz Basadien who has been on the rise.
The full-back, who has been heavily linked to Kaizer Chiefs, was part of the Bafana Bafana squad that recently took part in Group C's 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin, respectively. The Hugo Broos-led side won 2-0 at home before defeating the Cheetahs by the same margin away.
In his interview with iDiski Times, Barker is happy with the progress Basadein has made for Stellies. It explains why even Orlando Pirates are having a look at the former Moroka Swallows player.
Stellenbosch NOT surprised by Basadien

“No, I’m not surprised. I think we’ve always seen the quality of Fawaaz even before he came to us. Hence, we really worked hard to get him into our club. Ja, he takes a lot of things in his stride,” Barker stated.
“He’s a classy footballer, so he doesn’t get flustered by too many things. He trusts in his ability, and he’s comfortable on the ball, and his defending has improved a lot over the years, having played as a wing and as a number 10 in his younger career. So, ja, he’s got good all-around ability, strong in the air, both, attacking and defensively.
“He’s a good set-piece taker and a good quality provider of the ball. So ja, he has all attributes, so we’re not surprised at all,” Barker concluded.
