Benin coach’s worry ahead of facing Bafana Bafana

Published on by

Benin coach Gernot Rorh has revealed his worry ahead of locking horns with Bafana Bafana in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Benin's winless streak stretched to four matches after a 2-2 draw with Zimbabwe on Thursday night at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

This result left Les Guépards in third place in their World Cup qualifying group with eight points from five games, two points adrift of leaders South Africa.

Looking ahead, Benin are set to host Bafana on Tuesday, March 25th at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Rohr has expressed concern about the lack of home support for this crucial encounter, as they aim to secure a positive result against the group leaders.

GERNOT ROHR CONCERNED ABOUT HOME SUPPORT

“The most important game now is South Africa because we have eight points,” said Rohr as quoted by FARPost.

“If we beat them next Tuesday, we will be in front of them. We are leading right now [on Wednesday before Bafana won against Lesotho].

“The game next Tuesday is in Abidjan not in Benin like you know. Unfortunately, just like Zimbabwe, we must play away.

“But Zimbabwe is very close to South Africa and they have a lot of people here. And we don’t have that atmosphere in Abidjan.

“It’s not like here, Zimbabwe [fans] were pushing their team. But I’m happy because I saw a good football match and we took one point.

“But my team is able to manage that situation, I hope that on Tuesday it will be the same.”
