Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy will officially be unveiled as Kenya national team coach on Monday, March 3 following his arrival in the East African country on Thursday.
McCarthy touched down in Nairobi, accompanied by his former Orlando Pirates team-mate Moeneeb Josephs, who is set to be appointed as his goalkeeper trainer during his stint in Kenya.
The 47-year-old was received by former Inter Milan midfielder McDonald Mariga, who is the current Football Kenya Federation (FKF) vice president.
When will Benni be unveiled in Kenya?
Following his arrival, the FKF sent out an invitation to the media for his official unveiling on Monday when he will outline his vision for the national team.
“The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) cordially invites you to the unveiling of the new Harambee Stars head coach on Monday, 3rd March 2025, at KICC Pavilion, Nairobi, from 1:45 PM EAT,” reads part of the media invite from FKF.
“The event will feature key FKF officials and stakeholders as they introduce the new coach and outline the vision for the national team.”
Who is on McCarthy’s backroom staff?

McCarthy agreed to take over the Harambee Stars in December 2024 after the resignation of Turkish tactician Engin Firat following the Kenyan football federation’s election that ushered in a new team.
His appointment has, however, delayed owing to a myriad of problems that the new leadership walked into at FKF, including financial challenges and legal disputes, involving service providers and former staff, among them ex-coaches.
FKF therefore sought to ensure their house was in order before unveiling McCarthy, who has identified Cape Town Spurs assistant coach Vasili Manousakis to be his assistant, while he will also be joined by former Kenyan international Nicholas Muyoti on his coaching staff.
