Bongani Zungu boost for Kaizer Chiefs following Wydad Casablanca deadlock?

Kaizer Chiefs might have an opportunity to snap up former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu with his negotiations with Wydad Casablanca said to be in deadlock.

It has never been a secret that the 31-year-old midfielder has been in talks with the North African side following his unexpected Sundowns exit at the end of the last season.

Rulani Mokwena, who was appointed to as Wydad head coach last month has been clear he would want to have Zungu at his disposal this season having worked with the former Rangers man at Sundowns.

According to Soccer Laduma, the negotiations between the involved parties experienced a setback when it came to reaching an agreement on the player's salary.

It is believed that Zungu was receiving a substantial compensation package at Sundowns, making his services a costly acquisition for the Red Castle.

OPPORTUNITY FOR CHIEFS TO SNAP UP ZUNGU?

Now, Amakhosi are desperately in need of a reinforcement in their midfield with the club having been experiencing a hole in the position for quite some time now.

At times, Chiefs were said to be interested  in Zungu whose expertise is undeniably valuable, particularly for a club undergoing a rebuilding phase such as the Phefeni Glamour Boys.

Nasreddine Nabi currently has Yusuf Maart, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Edson Castillo and Samkelo Zwane to pick from for the holding midfielder role.

In addition, he can also utilise Inacio Miguel, who’s originally a centre-back. He recently signed for the club from Angolan giants Petro de Luanda.

Except Miguel, Chiefs have also signed Rushwin Dortley, Gaston Sirino, Bongani Sam, Fiacre Ntwari.
