“Pirates meanwhile have welcomed seven players back to camp after their involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers,” the Sea Robbers confirmed ahead of their game.

“Jose Riveiro’s options could also soon be boosted by the imminent return to action of the likes of Tapelo Xoki and Bandile Shandu, while newly signed right-back Deano van Rooyen is finally available for selection after his move from Stellenbosch.”

Xoki and Shandu did not take part in pre-season after the injuries sustained in the final third of the 2023/24 season.

What is at stake for Pirates?

This season, Bucs have started the season well; so far they have played five games across all competitions without tasting defeat.

They eliminated SuperSport United from the Nedbank Cup quarter-final before a 3-1 aggregate win over Cape Town City in the last four hurdle.
