Cape Town City sign ex-Orlando Pirates goalkeeper – report

Published on by

The DStv Premiership side, Cape Town City have reportedly completed the signing of the former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper.

The Citizens have been looking to bolster their goalkeeping department having also welcomed Swedish goalkeeper Tom Amos on trials before the end of the previous season.

However, he wasn’t signed because the club was not willing to give up the then-remaining slot for an additional foreigner.

Midway through last season, Cape Town City extended their first-choice goalkeeper Darren Keet's contract by two years. After the completion of the campaign, they parted ways with his understudy, Bongani Mpandle.

Mpandle’s departure left the Western Cape-based outfit with two goalies – Keet and Luca Diana-Oliaro who was the third choice.

WHO’S FORMER ORLANDO PIRATES GOALKEEPER SIGNED BY CAPE TOWN CITY?

Now, according to iDiski Times, they have added the former Buccaneers goalkeeper Elson Sithole to their goalkeeping department.

The 23-year-old joins City from Magesi FC, where he was a number two after the Zimbabwean shot-stopper Elvis Chipezeze.

Sithole was with the juniors of the Soweto giants and played in their DStv Diski Challenge side prior to being released at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Thereafter, he went on to join the Limpopo side Venda Football Academy before he switched to their provincial rivals Magesi FC after spending just one season with them.

He was part of the team that helped the club gain promotion to the top-flight, winning the 2023/24 Motsepe Foundation Championship league title.

CAPE TOWN CITY SQUAD OVERHAUL

The Mother City-based club appears to be undergoing a significant squad overhaul in an effort to return stronger next season.

Cape Town City have already released Joe Paciencia, Relebogile Mokhuoane, Bongani Mpandle and Khanya Leshabela. Moreover, they parted ways with Thabiso Kutumela who spent the last season with the club on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns. The 30-year-old goes back to his parent club.

Mokhuoane who spent three years with City is said to be heading to Sekhukhune United who are also rebuilding the team.

Meanwhile, the John Comitis-owed side has also been linked with several players, some of whom have already agreed to terms with them, according to the local reports.

The club is said to have reached agreement with Fortune Makaringe who left Orlando Pirates after the end of his contract.

CT City could also reunite with Kermit Erasmus who was with them between 2019 and 2020 before signing for Mamelodi Sundowns and later Orlando Pirates.

The club has also been heavily linked with Haashim Domingo who recently left Raja Casablanca, Kamohelo Mokotjo and Carlinhos.
