Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso emphasised the importance of adapting to his squad's strengths in the early stages of his tenure.
The Portuguese tactician, whose side secured a 2-0 victory over Richards Bay to maintain their league leadership, highlighted the rationale behind his tactical decisions, including the use of striker Iqraam Rayners as a substitute.
“We have to deal with the condition every moment. A coach as they say in England is a manager – it means you have to manage a group not only in terms of emotional and psychological stage, but their condition as well,” said Cardoso.
“And I have a good team that advises me in terms of player assessment. For example we knew that Grant would not sustain the entire game, and we knew that Terrence would not finish the game, so the plan was to substitute the two of them but, games have to be won and we took a risk with Terrence.”
Sundowns have amassed nine points since Miguel Cardoso's appointment, all achieved away from home against Stellenbosch, AmaZulu, and Richards Bay.

Cardoso's other victory came against Raja Casablanca in the CAF Champions League at home.
He indicated that their current approach to matches is likely to remain consistent, given the demanding fixture schedule ahead.
WHAT WAS CARDOSO’S ADMISSION AFTER A WIN OVER RICHARDS BAY
The Portuguese mentor acknowledged that their recent performances haven't always reflected their dominance, a trend he anticipates continuing as they face three consecutive away matches.
“I think it is important to understand that despite the first game we played at home, the other three games we played away. We are in a lot of away matches, but the fact that we are winning and are fighting to win is very important and hope we can keep that for a long time,” he added.
