Cardoso unhappy with Sundowns’ ‘stupid goal’ against AS FAR

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has expressed his disappointment in the manner his team conceded a late goal during their 1-1 draw with AS FAR in the CAF Champions League on Sunday.

Sundowns made it to the quarter-final following the draw which saw them finish second in their group but should have won the game had they utilised all their chances.

Peter Shalulile gave them a 12th minute lead before they wasted a number of chances only for Amin Zouhzouh to equalise very late to set up a nervous end to the game.

Cardoso was not impressed with the goal, terming the manner in which they conceded ‘stupid,’ after the Moroccan side scored following a late counter-attack.

“Bitter sensation was when we arrived here that the group was very difficult,” he told SABC Sport.

“This was a very tough group from the very beginning and the situation was not comfortable. So, arriving here and going through the group stage I think it was obviously an accomplishment.

“Obviously, that’s when we’re winning the game with 20 minutes to finish in total control of the game. We didn’t expect to get the draw, we expected to finish the game and win.

“It’s football and you need to pay attention to the details. I think it’s a little bit stupid goal the one that we suffered and, in the end, of course you don’t get first position.

“Let’s speak about what we gonna do in the next moment. Let’s wait for the draw and see what will happen then,” Cardoso said.

Cardoso will be hoping for a fair draw in the quarter-final with his team not very impressive in the Champions League despite their qualification.

Sundowns won two of their six group matches, drawing three and losing one with their performances not as impressive as before.
