South Africa international Thabo Cele has made a bold declaration regarding Kaizer Chiefs‘ Nedbank Cup campaign.
The Glamour Boys have gone for a decade without silverware, explaining why they signed some quality players this season, including Cele who joined in the January transfer window. Despite the squad strengthening, the Glamour Boys have been struggling for consistency in the ongoing 2024/25 season.
On Saturday, they threw their 1-0 lead to draw 1-1 with TS Galaxy at the Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane. It puts their chances of finishing in the top eight at risk. Cele believes Chiefs have what it takes to go all the way and secure the crown despite Sundowns and defending champions Orlando Pirates, being deemed as favourites.
‘There are mental barriers we need to overcome'

Ahead of the Sunday, April 13, semi-final at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium, the 28-year-old has explained what he is anticipating.
“The Nedbank I think is very important for us, for the fans, for our families and for the club. And we want to get into the final and eventually win the cup, but I think like you said there’s those mental barriers that we need to overcome,” he told the media.
“I think football and life in everything that we do plays a huge part its very crucial,” he concluded.
Cele has not been in action since being subbed against Golden Arrows in the Premier Soccer League fixture that ended in favour of Manqoba Mngqithi's men. However, he is expected to be fully fit for the Masandawana assignment.
