Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed their defender Rushwin Dortley is set to miss the rest of the season after surgery on his knee.
The versatile 22-year-old was signed from Cape Town City at the beginning of the season and has since been a factor for the Glamour Boys. He was also a key player for Bafana Bafana in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Amakhosi fans are hurt by the recent development, while football lovers in Mzansi feel Bafana Bafana might even fail to qualify for the 2026 Fifa World Cup. Have a look at what they said.
Dortley was overloaded by Kaizer Chiefs

When will Ranga Chivaviro get injured? While our best players like Edson Castillo and Rushwin Dortley are getting injured? – Sean McCarthy
He was overloaded and highly demanded even though they were conceding regularly. We hope to see him coming back stronger next time. Mothobi Mvala will replace him at Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana; a good player that one, big loss for Chiefs – Mawela Mphephu
I saw this coming. The guy played almost every game that Chiefs played. He was never rested like the other players and that has exposed him to injuries – Mphela Abut'Thabo II
Speedy recovery Rushwin Dortley. Wishing you a swift and successful rehabilitation. You've played your part this season, and your presence on the pitch will be deeply missed til your return. Your contributions to Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana have been invaluable and we are grateful for the time you had on the pitch – Junior Du Preez
This is Sad news indeed but Pirates must do what Al Ahly are doing to Zamalek. If they don't hire a foreign referee for the Sunday game, Pirates mustn't play this for their sake – Lelo Lendaman Tabata
Big loss but Msimango and Kwinika should step up

I disagree with people who say Dortley was overused. Kaizer Chiefs didn't play the MTN8 and were knocked out of the Carlling Knockout early. My point is Kaizer were only playing league games – Simo Simosethu
This is bad news for the National team more than it is for Kaizer Chiefs. As South Africans, the 2026 Fifa World Cup dream is over – Sinovuyo Kili
Big blow but it's also an opportunity for the likes of Given Msimango and Zitha Kwinika to raise their hands – Diabolical Swift
Kaizer Chiefs are cry babies; we never cried when we lost Thabiso Sesane but anyway, speed recovery. As Bafana Bafana fans, we need you – Thabo Thekiso
I'll never understand people who laugh when a player is injured. This guy is also a national team player. When or in which match was he injured? Damn, it must be serious – Sontshikazi Mthiya
