Chiefs director Jessica Motaung gives verdict on Nabi’s underwhelming reign

Kaizer Chiefs Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung has given her opinion on the poor campaign the club has experienced so far under coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Nabi has overseen a poor season that sees Chiefs in eighth position on the PSL table after 22 matches while in all competitions, they have won 10, drawn five and lost 13, with the Nedbank Cup their only chance for silverware this season as they are in the semi-final.

That is not what fans expected when Nabi arrived from Moroccan side AS FAR, having missed the league title by just one point, while his previous two seasons with Tanzanian giants Yanga saw him win back-to-back league crowns and reach the 2023 CAF Confederation Cup final.

However, while fans are losing their patience, Jessica Motaung says the technical bench has the club’s full support as they were expected to struggle given the problems they found at Naturena.

“I really don’t wanna get into that right now, all I can say is we have a technical team and coach, they’re doing the work, they have the support to do the work and then it’s for them to do the work,” said Jessica Motaung as quoted by iDiski Times.

“We obviously know this is a long game, we didn’t get into this thinking we will get quick results but certainly, the lessons are there, the analysis [of the team] is there. The football team is working well with the coaches to make sure things are addressed that need to be addressed.”

The Chiefs director has urged patience from fans as the club’s hierarchy puts everything in place to ensure Nabi and his coaching staff, that includes Khalil Ben Youssef, Cedric Kaze, Ilyez Mzoughi and Majdi Safi succeeds.

“It’s important that we learn from the challenges we face, and I encourage our supporters to support the team and make sure we make it to the finish line for the season. But many learning and a need for more consistency, and there’s work behind the scenes to make sure it’s being done,” she added.

Chiefs backed Nabi with seven new signings in the off-season after experiencing their worst-ever campaign in 2023-24, when they finished 10th, and also brought in three more in the midseason.

However, results have not improved with Chiefs unable to put together a winning run of even three straight matches, which leaves them in danger of another lowly finish.
