Chiefs fail to end winless streak after Chippa stalemate

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs' winless streak in the Betway Premiership extended to five matches after they were held to a goalless draw by Chippa United.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi made just two changes from the side that defeated Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup semi-final, bringing in Zitha Kwinika and Tashreeq Morris for Given Msimango and Glody Lilepo.

The first half offered few highlights, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut opportunities.

Chippa United had a late chance before the break, but Craig Martin's shot from outside the box went wide.

Halftime saw double substitutions from both benches. Njabulo Blom and Glody Lilepo replaced Dillon Solomons and Tashreeq Morris for Chiefs, while Giovanni Philander and Bienvenu Eva Nga came on for Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Enock Sakala for the hosts.

Bruce Bvuma was called into action around the hour mark, parrying a powerful long-range effort from Chippa. Overall, the match lacked quality, and neither goalkeeper was significantly tested consistently.

The 0-0 draw did little to improve either side's league position, with Chiefs remaining on 31 points, just one point ahead of Chippa, who have two games in hand.
