Former Orlando Pirates defender Sandile Mthethwa says his best moment for the Buccaneers was scoring against Kaizer Chiefs.
Mthethwa left Pirates this month, just days before he was unveiled at AmaZulu last week, and has opened up about his stay with the Soweto giants.
The centre-back had fallen down the pecking order at Pirates with his last appearance for the club coming in April. He had not feature this season with Olisa Ndah, Thabiso Sesane, Nkoninathi Sibisi, Thapelo Xoki and Innocent Maela ahead of him.
Mthethwa shares best memory
Mthethwa joined Pirates in 2016 from the KZN Academy and made just 28 appearances for the club but one game stands out for him.
He scored the winning goal in the 2022 Nedbank Cup semi-final against Chiefs after the game had gone to extra time before the Sea Robbers went on to win the trophy.
“I think the biggest moment with Pirates was winning the [2022] Nedbank Cup; most people would say that the goal against Kaizer Chiefs is the best memory for me because if we didn’t win that cup, it wouldn’t mean anything,” Mthethwa told the media as per FARPost.
Which Pirates moment stands out?

“So, I think that was the first cup that I won with Pirates that I contributed to. I have won the MTN8 before, but that cup [Nedbank] means a lot to me.
“Winning the Nedbank Cup is something I’ll always take with from Pirates. At least I gave something to Pirates; I know it was not only me; the guys played a big role in every match we played in the Nedbank Cup, but I also had a hand in winning that trophy.”
The defender was unveiled at AmaZulu alongside midfielder Bongani Zungu and the two will be hoping to get some minutes when Usuthu host Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday.
