Chiefs legend adamant three signings will win Amakhosi trophy! ‘Season is still young’

Kaizer Chiefs legend Siyabonga Nomvethe is convinced the Glamour Boys are now better equipped to end their decade-long trophy drought.

On Monday, the Soweto giants confirmed the arrival of Tashreeq Morris, Glody Makabo Lilepo, and Thabo Cele. These are experienced and established players who have delivered for their previous teams.

It was a massive statement made by the Glamour Boys who have been shaky in the ongoing Premier Soccer League campaign. They have struggled to win matches which has put them 12 points behind leaders and defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

However, on Sunday they advanced to the Round of 16 of the ongoing Nedbank Cup competition thanks to their 4-0 win against Free Agents at the FNB Stadium. Nomvethe is convinced the signings made will inspire the Glamour Boys to win silverware this season.

“Morris is a hardworking player. He doesn't give up, he keeps pushing, and he's a fighter. He has that aggression that you expect from a striker,” he told SNL24.

“Sometimes, as a team, you need that type of player who will step up even in the dying moments of the game. He scores goals when given the chance, including remarkable goals. Therefore, he's a solid signing. Up front, we need someone energetic to alleviate the pressure on our youngsters. Currently, we are relying too much on them.

“Thabo Cele brings valuable experience from Europe, and we expect a lot from him since he has played overseas. There’s no room for complacency when you are part of a big team. In today's football, teams are constantly in search of goalscorers, and a winger should be able to score as well. It’s not solely a striker's responsibility,” Nomvethe continued.

“As long as you are in an attacking position, you are counted as a forward. So, Lilepo will need to work even harder to outperform [Christian] Saile. I'm pleased with the signings. It has been 10 years since we last lifted a trophy. They need to make sure they put in the effort. The season is still young.”
