Chiefs legend claims Amakhosi keepers are worst – ‘Even me at my age I can go there & be a good goalkeeper’

Kaizer Chiefs legend Joseph ‘Banks' Setlhodi insists the Glamour Boys have no goalkeeper worthy of donning the number one jersey.

Amakhosi have been desperately looking for a shot-stopper who can succeed Itumeleng Khune between the sticks. This season, Fiacre Ntwari was signed from TS Galaxy to help bring stability at the back. He took too long to make an impact, and Brandon Petersen was introduced. Currently, Bruce Bvuma is coach Nasreddiene Nabi's main man in goal.

The 29-year-old, however, has not delivered as expected, especially in the Premier Soccer League. He has conceded 17 goals in 16 matches, just keeping five clean sheets in the process.

Setlhodi is unhappy with the situation at his former team, insisting there is no custodian who can help the Soweto giants get back to their best. The 77-year-old says it is ‘blunder after blunder' for those available which takes away the team's confidence.

‘Everything is broken at Chiefs'

I don't know what is happening at Kaizer Chiefs. They never had problems with goalkeepers throughout the years. But now it seems everything is broken at Chiefs. All these past years, even if Chiefs were not performing well, their goalkeepers were always there to save them. Goalkeepers used to win games for Chiefs, but today, [not there],” he said as quoted by SNL24.

“The worst part is that all the goalkeepers they have are not consistent. They make blunder after blunder. If a goalkeeper is not doing well, then the whole team will not be doing well. All title-winning teams have good goalkeepers.

“[Bvuma] is not well composed; he doesn't show full ownership of the penalty area. A goalkeeper must put pressure on the opponents, but the likes of Bruce can't read games. All of these goalkeepers are the same. Especially these South African goalkeepers, they are the worst.

“Even me, at my age, I can go there and be a good goalkeeper. Sit on a chair, and stand up only when the ball is coming to my direction,” Setlhodi concluded.
