Chiefs open DDC campaign with 2-0 win over Arrows, SuperSport drop points

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs secured a 2-0 victory over Golden Arrows in their opening match of the DStv Diski Challenge, while SuperSport United failed to secure points in their encounter with Polokwane City.

On the second day of the 2024/25 DDC season, Matsatsantsa and Rise and Shine faced off in the inaugural match of the festival at King Zwelithini Stadium.

The match concluded in a dull goalless draw, with neither team able to capitalize on their opportunities, resulting in a lackluster performance overall.

CHIEFS NOT YET CONVINCING

Meanwhile, Chiefs managed to secure a victory over Abafana Bes’thende, although their performance was not particularly convincing.

Amakhosi dominated possession during the first half; however, they struggled to convert this advantage into significant scoring opportunities. Vela Khumalo’s troops experienced difficulties with their final passes, which is understandable given that it was the opening match of the season.

However, they went to halftime leading 1-0 after Njabulo Hlongwane opened the scoring in the 31st minute. Meanwhile, Pheko Phago scored the late goal to wrap up the game.

Moreover, the third match of the day saw Cape Town City FC hammer Sekhukhune United 6-2 at Malta Park.

Fantastic start to our 2024/25 DDC campaign with a commanding 6-2 win against Sekhukhune United!

Cee-Jay Bezuidenhout was the main man as he bagged a hat-trick with Shakeel April, Reece Peters and Sibulele Mguzulwa all scoring once.

WHY ROYAL AM & TS GALAXY CLASH WAS FORFEITED?

Royal AM had to forfeit their season opener against TS Galaxy due to a shortage of squad.

According to FARPost, eight players are eligible play for Thwihli Thwahla this season. Meanwhile, only seven were available for selection on Sunday with one suspended.
