Chiefs star wins Goal of the Month as Rayners is named December’s finest

Mduduzi Shabalala’s brilliant solo strike against Chippa United has been named the goal of the month for December.

Shabalala delivered the hammer blow for Chippa when he went on a great run, beating three of his markers, before firing home to give Chiefs a 1-0 victory in a PSL match on December 29.

It was a goal that displayed the 20-year-old’s remarkable talent, showcasing why he is revered by defenders, and his importance to coach Nasreddine Nabi’s team.

Rayners named PSL MVP

Shabalala’s effort has now been recognised after the PSL named the wonder goal its best for the month of December on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners has been named Player of the Month for November and December while his coach has been crowned the best over that period.

Rayners scored three goals in five matches over that period as he maintained his great form for the Brazilians.

Cardoso started his Sundowns reign in December and won his three league matches without conceding, having taken over from Manqoba Mngqithi.

Will Cardoso begin 2025 in style?

The Portuguese tactician started with a 1-0 win away to Stellenbosch on December 18 before his team, who played with 10 from the 58th minute, secured a last-minute 1-0 victory past AmaZulu on Christmas eve.

Sundowns ended the year with a 2-0 away win to Richards Bay on December 28 to give Cardoso a perfect start to the month at the club.

Cardoso will hope to start 2025 in fine fashion with his side not playing a league match until January 22 when they take on Magesi FC, owing to their CAF Champions League commitments, where they have a final group tie at home to AS FAR of Morocco this weekend, and a draw will be enough to make it to the quarter-final.
