Christian Saile scores on SuperSport debut but shows why Chiefs let him go

Christian Saile scored on his debut for SuperSport United but his goal was an example of why he was allowed to leave Kaizer Chiefs.

Saile completed his move to SuperSport from Chiefs on Monday and he was thrown into the action on Tuesday when Matsatsantsa took on Magesi FC in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32.

Gavin Hunt’s men secured a 2-0 win with former Orlando Pirates man Vincent Pule opening the scores after five minutes.

Magesi tried to get an equaliser without success as they could not get in the right passes in the final third and they would rue their inefficiency in the second half.

Ten minutes after restart, SuperSport found themselves on the transition with Siviwe Magidigidi setting Saile on his way with a clever chip.

The Congolese forward was quicker than his markers before rounding off the goalkeeper but with the goal at his mercy, he could only hit the post. However, his saving grace was that the ball fell kindly back to him and he slotted home with a scissor kick to double SuperSport’s advantage.

Will Saile succeed at SuperSport?

Chiefs fans must have been worried to see Saile scoring on his debut but the manner in which he nearly missed an open goal would perhaps act as a relief and bring back memories of his time at the club.

The Congolese did not cover himself in glory during his one-and-a-half years at Chiefs as he only managed six goals in 49 matches and fell out of favour with coach Nasreddine Nabi this season.

Saile moved to SuperSport in a swap deal that saw Tashreeq Morris go the other way and he will hope that his debut goal will spark a career revival.
