Kaizer Chiefs fans were expecting to see some of their players make the Bafana Bafana team in the ongoing international break but that was not the case.
The Glamour Boys have been struggling for consistency, but still some players like Rushwin Dortley, Thabo Cele, Mduduzi Shabalala and Bruce Bvuma have been doing relatively well. Dortley was expected to make the squad but he sustained an injury that has locked him out for the remainder of the season.
Since joining Chiefs in the January transfer window, Cele has been doing well for Amakhosi in midfield while Bvuma has proved he is the right keeper to start in between the posts. Versatile midfielder Shabalala has been one of the club's top performers despite playing in different positions.
Broos right to leave out Chiefs players? Doctor Khumalo responds
Bafana Bafana are currently playing the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers, and recently they beat Lesotho at home 2-0. On Tuesday, they will be in Ivory Coast playing Benin in Abidjan.
Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo feels Hugo Broos was right to exclude Amakhosi players from his squad.
“At the moment I don’t think there is any player for now because your Mduduzi [Shabalala] your [Mfundo] Vilakazi [are not yet there],” he told the DNA Podcast.
“Vilakazi is playing for the U20 national team. He is being selected for a national team that is a national team. [Thabo] Cele [still needs] another four, five months,” he concluded.
It is interesting to see whether Broos will consider Chiefs players in the September outing or the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to be played later in the year in Morocco.
