Don’t blame Chiefs keepers! Bvuma adamant ‘it a defensive thing’

Kaizer Chiefs custodian Bruce Bvuma has cleared fellow goalkeepers, Brandon Petersen and Fiacre Ntwari, of any wrongdoing in the club's struggle to keep clean sheets.

This season, Amakhosi have kept just one clean sheet in the 13 games played across all competitions. They have scored 16 goals – the second best in the division after Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates who have each scored 22.

Ironically, they have the second worst defense. The Glamour Boys have conceded 16 goals, just five less than Marumo Gallants.

From the above stats, it shows Chiefs' main problem might not be in the attack as perceived by many. Bvuma has now challenged his teammates to step up and help to defend since they are playing as a unit.

It is something Chiefs are working on as a unit – Bvuma

“What have been these challenges? I wouldn’t say it’s a defensive thing, a defensive problem, because we attack as a team, we also defend as a team. So, defending starts from up front. So, as a team, we need to do better. We are very much aware that we’ve been conceding goals and losing games as well,” Bvuma stated.

“So, this is something that we’re working on. Obviously, like, it’s a team thing. It’s not like a defensive problem or a goalkeepers’ problem. So, it’s a team thing, and I believe that it’s a work in progress.

“Hopefully, we get it right sooner, so that we can, obviously, like, start keeping the clean sheets and winning games.”

Bvuma is expected to be in goal on Sunday when Kaizer Chiefs host Sekhukhune United at the Moses Mabhida  Stadium in Durban.
