Dove refuses to make promises but admits Chiefs have ‘failed a couple of times’ – ‘I want to win trophies… it’s frustrating’

Kaizer Chiefs versatile defender Edmilson Dove has admitted it is frustrating that the Glamour Boys have failed to emulate Mamelodi Sundowns and rivals Orlando Pirates in their quest to win silverware.

While Masandawana and the Sea Robbers have been delivering a trophy almost every season, the Glamour Boys have gone for a decade without celebrating one. This season, they are rebuilding, explaining the 10 signings they made in the two most recent windows, but still, they have struggled for consistency.

The Premier Soccer League title is out of reach, but Amakhosi can still win the Nedbank Cup. They will be playing against the Brazilians in the semi-final scheduled for Sunday, April 13. However, Dove has refused to make a commitment to the fans about winning silverware, but instead it is frustrating that they haven't managed to deliver as expected.

“Sometimes we make promises that we are not able to fulfil but I think we need to do better in the coming games and make sure we collect as many maximum points as possible,” Dove responded when asked what he can promise the fans before the season concludes.

“Not only for them [fans] but for us [players] as well, it's frustrating, but not looking at what others are doing, but for us; looking at ourselves, I think this club deserves to be at the top.

“We have failed a couple of times; I came here myself because I want to win trophies. This is a club that can give you that. Having a feeling that you haven't done what you were called for, it's quite frustrating, but we can only look forward and move on. This is not a team to be fighting for the top eight or top four. Chiefs deserve to be at the top,” Dove concluded.
