Relebohile Mofokeng starred on his Bafana Bafana debut as he scored one goal and provided an assist in South Africa’s 2-0 victory over Lesotho to boost their World Cup qualification chances.
Starting his first game in national team colours, the Orlando Pirates youngster had a quiet first half at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane but sprung to life after the break with his damage beginning after the 60-minute mark.
Mofokeng swept home South Africa’s opening goal after 60 minutes after receiving a great pass from Elias Mokwana, who beat his markers on the right wing before squaring a delightful ball to him.
Mofokeng scores and turns provider
The 20-year-old made no mistakes from the box, firing a low shot in the back of the net.
It did not take long before South Africa were celebrating the second goal when Mofokeng turned provider.
In the 63rd minute, a neat exchange of passes saw Mofokeng find Jayden Adams, another debutant, and the Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder slotted home to give South Africa a 2-0 lead.
What does the result mean for Bafana?

That is how it stayed as Hugo Broo’s side moved to 10 points in their group from five matches and with Rwanda losing 2-0 to Nigeria, South Africa now occupy top spot, followed by Benin on eight points.
The Rwandese are on seven points, Nigeria on six, and Lesotho on five, making it a very tight Group C ahead of Matchday 6 next week.
South Africa will now travel to Benin for their match on Tuesday March 25 in high sprites, knowing victory will give them a huge lead over their group rivals.
