Ex-Amakhosi defender: ‘I wish Johnson was there when I was at Chiefs’

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Sibusiso Mabiliso has revealed why he would have preferred to play under Cavin Johnson during his time at Naturena.

Mabiliso was part of the Soweto giants in 2021/22 season, during which he featured in only six matches across all competitions.

Meanwhile, Johnson was an interim coach for the Glamour Boys in the most part of the last season.

The two previously worked together in the junior ranks at Platinum Stars before Mabiliso joined AmaZulu in 2018.

Mabiliso believes that had he had the opportunity to work with Johnson, he would have received more playing time, as they share a mutual understanding.

The defender expressed disappointment at not being given enough chances to prove himself at Naturena.

WHY MABILISO WISHES HE WORKED WITH JOHNSON AT CHIEFS

“Sometimes I wish I had worked with him at Chiefs because he is the person who understands me, and his philosophy also suits the style of my play,” said Mabiliso in an interview with iDiski Times.

“It was a dream move and I’m grateful for the opportunity. I wouldn’t blame anyone for not getting game-time but if I was given game-time, maybe I would have done much better.

“Like you just said that I only played six games, so I believe if maybe I was given enough opportunities, I would have established myself more.

“I say it was out of my hands because if I was given enough opportunity, I would have done something different. So it was out of my hands.

“It’s something that I cannot control because I wasn’t given enough game time. But if I was given enough time, I would have done something.”
