Ex-Chiefs midfielder argues playing for Amakhosi is level above being Pirates player

Former Kaizer Chiefs attacking midfielder Mthokozisi Yende has claimed that playing for Amakhosi is a unique experience that transcends the rivalry with Orlando Pirates.

Yende turned out for the Phefeni Glamour Boys between 2009 and 2013 having signed from the then second tier side University of Pretoria.

He played 53 matches, providing two assists in the process and was part of the team that won Telkom Knockout Cup with them in the 2010/11 season.

Yende, who spent four seasons at Chiefs from 2009 to 2013, emphasised the distinct atmosphere and culture at Naturena.

He described the feeling of playing for the Soweto giants as “indescribable” and argued that it's a level above the experience of playing for Pirates.

YENDE CLAIMS PLAYING FOR CHIEFS IS LEVEL ABOVE DONNING PIRATES SHIRT

“As soon as you walk in at Kaizer Chiefs, you see that it is a different world, in terms of soccer and your career turning a different direction,” said Yende in the Nedbank Uncovered Podcast as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

“Because even the air you breathe, you can feel that's different, ayifani.

“It's also different you play for Kaizer Chiefs and when you play for Orlando Pirates, it's different.

“It's not a debate, it's just a feeling you have that when you play for Chiefs it is different than when you play for Pirates.

“One day, maybe you will ask one of the legends who played for both teams what is the difference. I don't know how to put it, I don't know how to explain it, but if you have been there you will know what I am talking about.

“It was a great move and I still cherish it and having to meet the chairman, Mr. Kaizer Motaung, and sit on the round table with him.

“It doesn't happen to anyone – the select few get to meet those kind of people.

“So in hindsight, I can say it is something amazing to play for Kaizer Chiefs.”
