Bongani Sam reveals his main target after sealing Kaizer Chiefs move

The defender has declared his ambitions for the Soweto giants

Kaizer Chiefs’ new signing Bongani Sam is determined to help the club return to winning trophies after crossing over from Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates.
Sam joined Chiefs from Pirates after spending last season on loan at Moroka Swallows and intends to hit the ground running once he regains full fitness.

The defender was part of the Chiefs squad during their pre-season tour of Turkey but returned home early owing to an injury.

Sam is among a select few who have had the privilege of turning out for both Chiefs and Pirates and cannot wait to show his qualities for Nasreddine Nabi’s side, who last won a trophy in 2015.

‘I want to help the team go back to glory days’

“It’s an honour for me to be one of the players who played for all the teams in Soweto,” Sam told SuperSport TV.

“And I’m really happy and excited. I can’t wait for the season to start. It was not that difficult for me because the environment that I’m coming from gave me the platform for it to be easy for me to adjust.

“I want to help the team go back to its glory days. It’s not only me I’m sure the guys are also eager to do the same thing. I’m just fortunate to be part and parcel of the team that will take the team to where it belongs.”

Sam will likely be a regular under Nasreddine Nabi

The 27-year-old left-back played 19 times for Swallows before returning to his parent club but with Pirates having a bloated squad, the Buccaneers opted to sell him to their rivals once they declared their interest.

Sam signed a three-year contract with an option for another and will likely be a regular under Nabi.

The Gqeberha-born player joins a long list of players who have played for both Chiefs and Pirates among them Jimmy Tau, Lehlohonolo Majoro, Brilliant Khuzwayo, Pollen Ndlanya and Joseph Molangoane.
