Rhulani Mokwena set for Tanzanian opposition in first match at Wyad

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach has learnt who he will face in his maiden pre-season game

Rhulani Mokwena will come up against Tanzanian side Azam FC in his first match as Wydad Athletic boss.

Mokwena joined the Moroccan giants this month following his exit from Mamelodi Sundowns and will start his pre-season on Wednesday before a friendly match on July 29 against the Tanzanian club.

Wydad had a poor season that saw them finish sixth in the Moroccan league, necessitating a change and the club jumped on the opportunity to hire Mokwena when he was available following his shock departure from Sundowns.

Azam finished second in the Tanzanian league last season which earned them a place in the CAF Champions League and are up against Rwandan giants APR hence the need for proper preparations.

Wydad are expected to be busy in the transfer market

The match will give Mokwena a picture of the scale of work on his hands at the Moroccan club which has already seen nine players leave.

Wydad are expected to be busy in the transfer market to strengthen the squad for a title battle with cross town rivals Raja Casablanca next season.

The Moroccan giants have already signed wingers Mohamed Rayhi (30) and Nassim Chadli (22) with the attack a key area that needs reinforcement if they are to compete with Raja, who will now be coached by ex-TS Galaxy tactician Sead Ramovic.
