Fadlu Davids fires warning to Stellies ahead of Confederation Cup return leg

Simba coach Fadlu Davids is looking for further improvements from his team in their CAF Confederation Cup semi-final return match against Stellenbosch.

Davids’ men secured a slim 1-0 win in Zanzibar last Sunday which they will take to the return leg at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday April 27 but the tactician was not overly impressed by the result as he feels they should have won by a bigger margin on home soil.

He now wants his team to finish off the job in comfortable fashion, even if they will be playing away, as he believes there is enough quality within his squad to get past Steve Barker’s men.

“Our objective was accomplished in terms of keeping a clean sheet,” Davids told Telecomasia.net.

“But, we are a big club and we cannot be satisfied with a scoreline like this especially when we had chances to make it two or even 4-0. The players have to really realise the stage that we are in and at the semi-final stage, you don’t usually get these many chances.

“We really have to improve on this performance because it is not enough in terms of what I know the players can do.”

Simba, just like Stellenbosch, are in the semi-final of the Confederation Cup for the first time and can make further history by making it to the final, where they will likely face Morocco’s RS Berkane, who secured a 4-0 first leg victory against Constantine of Algeria last weekend.

Davids has had an instant impact at the Tanzanian giants since joining the club before the start of this season as they were in the title race for most of the campaign before fizzling out to allow defending champions Young Africans to assume the league leadership.

Young Africans are top with 70 points from 26 matches while Simba have 57, but with four games in hand, and David looks to have turned his focus to winning the Confederation Cup.

A draw of any kind will see Simba make it to their first-ever final while Stellenbosch must win by at least two clear goals.
