Fadlu Davids reveals ‘head coach’ offers he turned down before joining Simba SC

South African coach Fadlu Davids has revealed that he turned down a few head coaching offers before accepting the position at Tanzanian giants, Simba SC

Davids spent the previous season as assistant coach to Josef Zinnbauer at Raja Casablanca, where they enjoyed an unbeaten campaign, winning the Morocco Botola Pro league and the Throne Cup.

While Zinnbauer departed for Saudi Pro League side Al-Wehda, Davids also left his assistant role to take up the head coaching position at Simba.

He disclosed that he had some head coaching opportunities in Morocco before choosing to join Simba due to the Tanzanian club's ambitious project.

“There were a couple of head coach options for me in Morocco. But when Simba came calling and explained the project, it was a really exciting project to look forward to what we can build over the next years,” Davids told FARPost.

“It was a no-brainer to take the job.”

He continued: “It’s a huge institution [Simba] with a lot of different facets to the club. I’ve got the experience now of being at big clubs, at home and in a different country. That has really helped me in terms of settling and managing everything.”

Davids admitted their arch rivals Young Africans are far ahead of them, however, he and his technical team are heading the right way.

“Young Africans are three years into their project and one year into the project for the coach. They’ve done really well,” Davids said.

“We’re four weeks into the project. We know in which direction we are moving as long as we stick to our objectives and what we’re trying to achieve.”

He’s hoping to “build not only success this season but sustainable success, and we have that short-term vision but the long-term vision to be able to build that we can again be dominant on the continent of Africa.”
