Premier Soccer League defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns are set to reap big in the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup to be staged in the United States from June 14 to July 13.
They qualified for the prestigious competition alongside Al Ahli, Esperance, and Rulani Mokoena's Wydad Athletic Club. The 32 teams around the club are set to benefit massively financially after qualifying for the inaugural expanded club World Cup.
By virtue of making the list, teams from Africa are set to bag $9.55, which is approximately R174 million. It will give the likes of Sundowns the financial muscle they need for better preparations ahead of the tourney. European teams will receive between $12.81 and 38.19 million which is the highest while Oceania outfits will be given $3.58 million as participation fee.
The winner of the competition is set to receive approximately R23 billion with all clubs getting $7.5 by making the group stage.
Fifa targets an additional $250 million

“The distribution model of the FIFA Club World Cup reflects the pinnacle of club football and represents the biggest-ever prize money for a football tournament comprising a seven-match group stage and playoff format with a potential payout of USD 125 million foreseen for the winners,” Fifa President Gianni Infantion stated.
“In addition to the prize money for the participating teams, there is an unprecedented solidarity investment programme where we have a target of an additional 250 million dollars being provided to club football across the world. This solidarity will undoubtedly provide a significant boost in our ongoing efforts to make football truly global.
“Not only that, but FIFA will neither retain any funding for this tournament, as all revenues will be distributed to club football, nor will it touch FIFA’s reserves, which are set aside for global football development through the 211 FIFA Member Associations,” He concluded.
Sundowns are in Group F alongside Fluminense, Borussia Dortmund, and Ulsan HD.
