South Africa coach Hugo Broos was left delighted with the determination and display the players showed on Friday in the huge 5-0 win over Congo in Group K's 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier staged at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Teboho Mokoena's brace and strikes from Bathusi Aubaas, Lyle Foster, and Iqraam Rayners brought Bafana Bafana closer to the biennial competition's ticket.
The Belgian is delighted that his players followed his instructions and were rewarded with many goals and a clean sheet.
‘Five goals, modern football! It was amazing' – Broos
Bafana Bafana struggled to take their chances in their first match against Uganda which ended 2-2 after Thalente Mbatha's late strike at the Orlando Stadium in September.
The Orlando Pirates man, once again, scored late against South Sudan in Juba to help his team win 3-2, but on Friday, the scenes were different.
“I think that it was amazing, the way we started the game, the way we played football. This was something that I always wanted to see from this team, and we did it also in the [2023] Afcon,” Broos said as quoted by Safa.
“But [Friday] was really fantastic. Many goals, five goals, good football, modern football, forward football, and high rhythm in the game. And it shows again what a group of players I have. A group of players I’m very proud of, and I have said it also already before. But those guys know when they have to perform.”
‘The five goals will not count on Tuesday'

South Africa will be among the first teams to get their Afcon ticket with a win on Tuesday in Brazzaville.
Broos has now urged his players to forget the huge win and focus on the crucial game in Group K.
“We had a little decompression in September [in the initial games] and we talked about it and then you saw the reaction on Friday,” the 72-year-old continued.
“Those guys wanted to make a statement, and they made a statement with good football. But it’s only three points and next Tuesday we have another game.
“Those five goals don’t count, so we have to prepare ourselves.”
