The former Bucs defender is thrilled by the arrival of ex-Stellenbosch captain

Orlando Pirates legend Lucky Lekgwathi is delighted by the arrival of Deano van Rooyen and physical trainer Carlos Nodar Paz to his former club.

Van Rooyen completed his transfer to Pirates last week after deciding to ditch Stellenbosch FC for a new adventure with the Soweto giants while Paz is set to boost Jose Riveiro’s backroom staff following the departures of Miguel Bellver and Sergio Almenara.

Lekgwathi is thrilled that his former club is showing great ambition on the pitch and in the dugout and took time to welcome the duo to Orlando Stadium.

““WELCOME TO ORLANDO PIRATES,” Lekgwathi posted on Instagram.

Will Deano van Rooyen be a success at Pirates?

“Thank you for the opportunity to welcome Deano David van Rooyen and Carloz Nodar Paz (Ass Coach).”

Lekgwathi will be delighted by the arrival of Van Rooyen who is set to boost Riveiro’s defence.

The ex-Stellenbosch captain will add options in defence for Pirates while increasing competition as the Soweto giants already have Thabiso Lebitso, Thabiso Monyane, and Bandile Shandu who can all play at right-back.

Riveiro already gave his seal of approval on the defender’s signing, lauding his experience in winning trophies as one of the main reasons he has been brought in by the Sea Robbers.

Riveiro waxed lyrical about ex-Stellenbosch captain

“[He's] experienced, he knows how to compete for trophies already coming from doing an excellent job in Stellenbosch. So, he's going to add fantastic value in defence and attack and hopefully, we can see soon how capable he is,” said Riveiro.

“We are happy to welcome the new players because each and every who's coming to this team has the capacity and has the qualities to be here, just wish him all the best like everybody else. I'm sure that he's gonna help us a lot this season.”

Meanwhile, Paz will also strengthen the Pirates coaching staff that was left light by the exits of Bellver and Almenara.

Riveiro had moaned about how it would be difficult working without his close friend Almenara but has an opportunity to build a new partnership with Paz.
