Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Farouk Khan has weighed in on what is the best position for Ashely Du Preez.
Du Preez is among the key players at Chiefs and has been utilised when available by coach Nasreddine Nabi.
Nabi has used Du Preez as a centre forward, looking to benefit from his pace and hard work, with the former Stellenbosch man managing four goals from 19 matches this season.
However, while assessing Chiefs’ 2-1 loss to Golden Arrows on Saturday, Khan who served as assistant coach at Amakhosi, says Du Preez is not producing good results because Nabi is playing him out of position.
How can Nabi utilise Du Preez?

“In the second half, there was only one shot on target so not many. In the first half a couple of good runs he [Du Preez] made but he was absent for most of the game,” Khan said on SoccerBeat.
“I still believe Du Preez is not a No.9, I believe he is possibly a winger, No.7 or No.11 and he has been put in that position because of his pace.
“Nabi has got a lot of pace, he has got [Dillan] Solomons, Du Preez and he has got [Glody] Lilepo but based on his own, it is useless if you don’t use it effectively.”

Khan went into details over what Du Preez needs to be doing for Chiefs to benefit from his talents.
“When I say that I mean timing your runs, getting your runs into the right areas and then getting the service will then make that pace much more effective,” he added.
“He [Nabi] has to play to the strength of the strikers and move a player like Du Preez either wide or put him on the bench and use him as an impact player.”
Du Preez has managed 19 goals and provided seven assists in 78 games for Chiefs since joining them ahead of the 2022-23 season.
