The Citizens’ attacker has been delivering in the South African top tier something that has attracted some top teams.
Established South Africa international and Cape Town City forward Khanyisa Mayo is being chased by some teams from abroad.
The 25-year-old attacker has been consistent in the Premier Soccer League, always pushing for better stats in front of the goal. In the 2022/23 season, the forward was joint top scorer in the league after scoring 12 goals, the same as Mamelodi Sundowns dangerman Peter Shalulile.
In the concluded campaign, he scored 10 goals as City went on to finish fifth on the table with 45 points, missing the Caf Confederation Cup spot by a whisker.
In the past, Mayo has been heavily linked with a move to the country's top three teams – Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, and Kaizer Chiefs.
North Africa clubs targeting the striker
On Saturday, SABC Sport stated the versatile attacker is in advanced talks with a top team, and a deal is imminent.
“There is a strong interest from North Africa to lure striker Khanyisa Mayo away from Cape Town City,” the national broadcaster confirmed.
The information on which club has enquired about the Bafana Bafana international is being kept discreet over fears the deal could collapse if the team is named, but talks are understood to be ongoing.”
The player's agent Basia Michaels has stated contact has been made, but there is nothing official, “We know that Khanyisa signed a new contract just last year, and that was proof of how much City want to hold on to him.
“However, that hasn’t stopped big clubs from asking questions about his availability. Yes, we have a few inquiries. But there is nothing official to mention in the media at this stage, especially with the season starting next weekend.”
Khanyisa's current deal with City expires in 2028.
