Malawi international and former Orlando Pirates striker Gabadinho Mhango was a wanted man at Kaizer Chiefs prior to the beginning of the 2023/24 season.
The now 32-year-old was a free agent after the contract between him and AmaZulu expired. The versatile forward joined Usuthu in the 2022/23 season after parting ways with the Sea Robbers.
Mhango went on to play 22 games across all competitions with a return of six goals and two assists.
The Glamour Boys, who were desperate to sign a striker, felt Mhango was a short-term solution to their struggles. As a matter of fact, contact was initiated and the player conceded he knew he would be moving to Naturena before things changed in a flash.
‘I was disappointed Chiefs move failed to happen' – Mhango

“It wasn’t just talk, but I was about to go to Chiefs, and then things turned around. Up to now, I don’t even know what happened,” the forward told Far Post.
“But I remember I was at AmaZulu, and I actually traveled from Durban to Joburg to complete the move. I was happy that I was going to be at Chiefs, but then things happened.
“I was looking forward, but at the end of the day, I was disappointed as it failed to happen. However, I am loving the game and the place where I ended up.”
Mhango, eventually, joined the now-defunct Moroka Swallows – after failing to secure his move to Amakhosi. The former Bucs striker is currently at Marumo Gallants and has so far scored three goals and provided an assist in 14 outings.
