Given Msimango reflects on his increased game time at Kaizer Chiefs

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs defender Given Msimango has expressed his delight at the run of games he has had under his belt at the club this season.

Msimango has been ever-present at the heart of defence in Chiefs’ last seven games in all competitions but that was not how he started the season.

He had to be patient to get his opportunities since coach Nasreddine Nabi preferred Rushwin Dortley and Miguel Inacio but with injuries to the two, he is now getting the much-needed game time.

Msimango has been slotted in after Dortley’s season-ending injury in March and he is now among the key players as Nabi’s team look to finish higher up the table and also end their 10-year wait for a trophy.

“Personally, I’m in a good space, I’ve been putting in the hard work on and off the pitch,” Msimango told FARPost.

“And I feel confident in my contribution to the team. It’s always about improving and staying consistent. I believe the focus is starting to show in my performances. I’m just looking forward to maintaining strong performances.”

Msimango was part of the Chiefs team that stunned Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup semi-final to seal a ticket to the final, where they will play Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates on May 10.

Chiefs now shift focus to their league match against Chippa United on Saturday April 19 and the defender is confident of getting maximum points after their recent struggles in the PSL.

“Chippa United are a very competitive side, very structured and disciplined. We’ve faced them before in the league, and we came out victorious. We faced them in the cup as well; we managed to get one over them,” he added.

“But that doesn’t take away that we demand or we expect full concentration from the guys. We’ve studied them [Chippa] again, and we are ready to match their energy and intensity on the day.”

Chiefs have not won any of their last four league games, which has left them stuck in eighth position in the PSL, and need to start winning quickly to avoid another poor finish.
