A former Kaizer Chiefs player has weighed in on Gaston Sirino's move from Mamelodi Sundowns to Kaizer Chiefs, drawing comparisons with other players who have made the same transfer between the two clubs.
The Uruguayan skilful attacking midfielder signed for the Soweto giants following his departure from the Brazilians after the end of the last season.
Numerous players have made the unexpected moves from Chloorkop to Naturena in the past.
This group includes notable names such as Fabian McCarthy, Khama Billiat, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Josta Dladla, Jose Torrealba, and Leonardo Castro.
However, many of these individuals were unable to replicate their previous successes at Sundowns.
Edward Manqele, who has also represented both clubs, is of the opinion that Sirino will be among the select few who departed from Bafana Ba Style and subsequently excelled at Chiefs.
FORMER CHIEFS STRIKER ON WHAT TO EXPECT FROM SIRINO
“At times it's not good to compare the careers of different players because we all have our different paths which we take and our luck is not the same. But personally, I think Sirino will do very well at Chiefs,” Manqele told Soccer Laduma.
“You remember how (Jose) Torrealba did? And then Josta Dladla? Those were players from Sundowns who did very well at Chiefs. Yes, some of us didn't do well for different reasons but I feel that Sirino will do well just like Torrealba and Josta (Dladla). They should just give him the chance and opportunity to do what he does best.”
Manqele further issued an advice to Chiefs to play Sirino in his preferred position so he can deliver the way he has been at the Tshwane giants.
“If they can play him in his favourite position as a number 10 behind the strikers then they will benefit from him. He should be given the freedom to play his game and enjoy it and then they will also enjoy his services. He still has what it takes. You saw everything, how he played at Sundowns.”
