‘He’s like a son to me’: Nabi praises Kaizer Chiefs youngster

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has sung praises on the club’s youngster Mfundo Vikazi following his remarkable performance over the weekend.

Nabi was speaking with the media after Amakhosi secured a 2-1 victory over Marumo Gallants in their Betway Premiership opener at Free State Toyota Stadium on Saturday.

Vikazi made a significant impact after coming on in the second half, scoring the decisive goal for the Soweto team. Meanwhile, the opening goal was netted by another promising young player, Mduduzi Shabalala.

Nabi explained that he prefers not to start Vikazi at this stage, as he aims to shield him from excessive pressure. He lauded the young left-footer, describing him as a “huge talent.”

NASREDDINE NABI HEAPS PRAISE ON CHIEFS YOUNGSTER

“I love Vilakazi; he's like a son to me, but I have to protect him,” Nabi said.

“He's not starting yet because I am protecting him from all the attention because he is a huge talent and he needs to understand that when you start for Kaizer Chiefs it takes a big sacrifice.

“So, I must protect my young talented players. I am very happy for him but I also want him to remain grounded and work even harder.”

Vilakazi was promoted to the first team during Cavin Johnson’s tenure as an interim head coach.

The young left-footer made a professional debut in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 clash against Milford FC where Chiefs lost on penalties.

The club then handed him a new contract that will keep him in Naturena until 2028.
