Hey Chiefs, stop the noise! Goal was legit! Have a look

The officials in the Premier Soccer League game between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs were right about the two controversial calls they made.

The Glamour Boys hosted Masandawana at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, a match the champions won 2-1.

However, there has been a debate about two important calls that contributed massively to the outcome of the game.

Was it an offside goal?

Former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani insists it was a legit goal and that Lucas Ribeiro was in the right position.

“Here we see a ball played by Rivaldo Coetzee. When we draw the line we can see that a leg of Miguel is putting Lucas onside,” he said on SABC Sport.

“We see here [Marcelo] Allende is offside, [Iqraam] Rayners is offside, but it’s not offence to be in an offside position. When the ball is played the player is from an onside position, he attacks, he crosses, a goal is scored. This goal was scored correctly in line with the laws of game.

Was it right to rule out Amakhosi's goal?

“We can see Mduduzi made a cross and Miguel headed the ball and it ended up in the net,” ‘The Principal' continued.

“But the referee is blowing the whistle for a foul, there is a push inside the penalty area. This whistle came before the ball entered the net. The law says ‘a goal is scored when the ball ends up in the back of the net, provided no offence was committed by the team scoring a goal.

“You cannot use hands, football does not allow you to use hands. There was an offence, the push, which the referee blew. With the evidence we have, we can support the referee that the right decision was made.”
